I'm in my studio working hard on my new project, a rocking party Halloween album. Its very spooky in here, with clanking chains, howling wolves and monster snarls!
I'm hoping to get this CD distributed to stores for next Halloween; I'll keep you posted! I'm going to a Halloween trade show in January, where I'll get distribution (I hope!!)
I've recorded a sassy chick version of Monster Mash, a literal "Jar of Hearts," a growly "I Put a Spell on You," plus I've written some really fun Halloween songs as well! One is a torchy song called "Jack O'Lantern, one is a hilarious dance tune called "Mr. Bag o Bones," and a rock tune called "Howling at the Moon."
The next few weeks I'll be recording "Witchcraft," "Spooky," "Werewolves of London," Katy Perry's "E.T." and "Thriller." As you can see, it will be a fun, high energy dancing party CD!
I'm working hard to not only get the CD done and pressed for the trade show, but also to get some radio airplay commitments, so I can promote the stations at the Trade Show.
Oh, and by the way, "BOO!"

My new band demo
Yay! At last, my band demo is done! See? THAT'S why I cleared my calendar, so I could do these very important, yet time-consuming things! My beautiful daughter-in-law, Sarah, is in the video too! So's Charlie Overbey, Dana Garrett, Chad Quist, Madeline Cohen (and her husband Lew!) Steve Araujo, Richard Sumner, Guy Latham, Vince Cooper, and more!
Now to get lots of bookings and tours!
Not to mention I have several other videos to finish. My Halloween video (there's a sneak preview on the band video of my Halloween album!)and my Victoria Video.
And then maybe, just MAYBE.... I can get back in the studio and do what musicians are REALLY supposed to do-- write!!

Moving forward
I did a really fun show last December and February with my band. I had my friend Beatrice videotape the shows, and I've been so busy with life, I never finished editing the videos (over five hours of video to edit to a ten minute video!) The past two days I really hunkered down and got it done. All it needs is polishing and a final note-taking view. So far so good! My eyes hurt, my back hurts, my head hurts, even my hair hurts! But its so worth it, because I got something done that is very important to me. I got my demo. Tomorrow if all goes well, I'll post it on my website and youtube, and then I'll start sending packages out to get the band booked!
I'm going for a walk on the beach now, with my husband. Life is good. By the way, for those of you not from San Diego, our ocean is glowing a bright blue at night lately. Bio-luminescence. It's incredible, and glows the color of a gracier, even (especially) in the pitch dark!
XO

Taking a leap...
Sometimes life gets comfortable, you get into a routine, and before you know it, years have gone by. The past five years have brought magic to my personal life-- a wonderful husband, a new city (I LOVE YOU SAN DIEGO!!!) and a fresh circle of people to add to my list of dear friends.
Career-wise, I've sang my heart out as a solo act, and then I caught band fever, performing some exciting shows with an awesome band. I've just scratched the surface with my creativity and am ready to dedicate more time to writing and performing as an original artist. I've cleared my calendar. I even let go of my Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays at Albies. (We had a riot, didn't we? I miss you all, already, Albies gang!)
And, now, I am stepping onto a ledge, spreading my arms and sailing off in a new direction. Joyfully, happily, shouldering childlike faith (and some adult hard-knocks street smarts as well!) I'm taking that long first step forward.
Oh, and P.S. I just gave my website a long overdue facelift. Hope you check it out! www.rosewinters.com

Belly Dancers, Violins, Marlena Dietrich... FUN SHOW coming up!
Holy cow, February 5th is going to be a blast! It just keeps getting cooler and funner (I know funner isn't a word but it SHOULD be!!)
Just like last show, we're going to do two rocking sets, with a special show in the middle. Last time the special show was a Christmas theme. This one will be a world theme. I thought adding violin and cello was amazing and cool, and little did I know we'd get a whole group of belly dancers too! Its going to be a riot! We'll have a Russian song, and a little Marlena Dietrich take on a popular americanized Austrian song, French, African, etc.
It will be a WORLD-wind of fun!! Hope to see many friends at the Belly Up February 5th from 4-7!!

Success!!
Wow, what a worldwind this past few weeks has been! I got my CD's printed on a Friday and two days later sold them at the Belly Up! We had a good crowd, a really fun show, and the biggest news of all, they want us back! I also have an agency interested in us, and as soon as I get the videos edited I'll get to work myself on booking directly.
Video editing is an interesting task. First, Beatrice, our videographer extraordinaire, gave me the actual video. I need to make it talk to my computer, so I'm getting it converted to an AVI file. In the meantime the Belly Up also made a video, and its on their Mac computer. I need to get the data onto MY computer, so I brought my external hard drive. Whoops! I brought a PC XHD, not compatible! I returned a few days later with a 16 gig flash drive. Nope. Not big enough. I returned again with a Mac XHD, but my (firewire) cord didnt fit their computer. So I'll go back again today, with the correct cord, and try once more. THEN I have to get a program that lets my Mac hard drive talk to my PC computer so I can download the info onto my editing program. Sheesh! I thought I was just supposed to play piano and write songs and stuff! Not these days. Musicians have to be tech gurus if they want to survive in this internet oriented business!
After I finally get my video onto my computer, I will begin the editing process. Since I have two different videos (but only one sound recording) I can pick and choose what the viewers will see. If Chad played something really cool I want the video on him, not me. Its nice to have lots of choices and lots of footage. Then when I have it all perfectly lined up, three hours worth, I take a big "axe" and chop out all but maybe five minutes, taking the best of the best, the funnest of the fun, the coolest of the cool. And voila, I have a demo! No one will hire a band sitting through a three hour video. They want a ten second spot of a rocking tune, then a ten second spot of a ballad, then a moment of a latin groove, etc. And thats how it works.
In the meantime, I'm preparing for my next show, which has to be bigger, better and tighter than the last show. I may get a TV spot and radio advertising time! How fun! I'll keep you posted! I'm getting a lot of positive feedback from my San Diego song, which I'm very excited about!
